Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is COSMETIC TATTOOING ?

A:Cosmetic tattooing also known as MICROBLADING, and OMBRE POWDER BROWS is a relatively new, manual method. It is considered to be semi-permanent. Unlike a regular tattoo, Microblading is done by using a hand tool with sterile micro needles to deposit pigment into the epidermis thus creating the appearance of crisp hair like strokes lasting anywhere from 1-2 Years

Q: How does Microblading work?

A:The pigment is applied with a specific tool that has a row of several fine needles to create thin hair like marks in the skin. We will choose needles and the blade type according to the technique and the skin type. The pigment is bladed just below the epidermis and the most shallow part of the dermis, making extremely fine natural looking hair strokes. A very natural result is achieved, as the hairs are bladed into the skin according to the natural hair growth direction. A touch up is recommended 4-6 weeks after your initial treatment.

Q: How long does the procedure take and WHY?

A: 2-2.5 hours depending on each shaping/skin scenario. Correction may take longer.

First part of the appointment entails in the shaping/mapping of the brows which can take anywhere from 30mins to 1 hour. After client approves the shape, we move on with the tattooing process. I will first do the outline, numb the treatment area for 10 minutes, then work on the shading. Numbing can be applied throughout the procedure to ease discomfort for those with sensitive pain tolerance or to stop any bleeding. I make sure to keep checking that the brows are even throughout the entire tattooing process.

Q: Will Microblading work well for me?

A:If you have extremely oily skin, the constant production of oil will cause the hair strokes to heal with a more diffused, softer look. Your end result will look more powdered than you would expect. If you have little to no existing hair, your tattoo will appear more 2-dimensional than those clients who have more hair naturally. If you do have very oily skin we recommend you get Ombre Powder Brows instead.

Q: How long will my eyebrows last?

A: 1-3 years. It is recommended that you use sunscreen or moisturizer with SPF of at least 15 to avoid your brows from fading too rapidly. It is not recommended to use harsh chemical skincare products that will cause color to lighten; avoid brow area when using those products.

Q: Do you recommend a yearly refresher?

A: No. If your brows do not need a touch-up, I would recommend you wait as long as you can to avoid your skin from being overworked. We want to avoid your skin from being damaged or potential scarring. In conclusion, a touch-up is recommended when necessary, but definitely not yearly.

Q: How long is the healing time?

A: Brows: Typically 7-14 days (or longer) depending on the person. It is important that you follow the proper aftercare during this time to avoid any infection or color loss/damage.

Lips: About 3-7 days

Q: Is the procedure painful?

A: There will be minimal to no pain. Topical aesthetic is applied before and during the procedure. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person. Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure.

Q: Do you reuse any supplies or equipment?

A: Absolutely not. Every supply I use are disposable for one-time use. Any equipment that is not disposable will be wrapped and covered properly for sanitation to avoid cross contamination. I take the proper steps to a safe and sanitary work environment for both myself and my clients.

Q: Do I get to choose my brow shape?

A: Yes, I will ask you your preference on the shape and color. I will also give me professional opinion on what I think looks good with the natural hair growth of your brows, face shape/structure, brow bone, etc. We will not proceed with the tattoo until client is 100% satisfied with the shape.

Q: Is a first touch-up recommended?

A: Yes, a touch-up session (after your initial appt) is recommended to perfect the shape and to go over any areas where pigment did not retain. If client's skin held up the color and shape well, touch-up will not be necessary. You may send me updates of your healed brows for assessment before booking your touch up if you feel like you do not need to come in for one. I have a set touch-up pricing for different time frames that you may choose from.

Q: Can I get my brows wet or sweaty?

A: It's recommended that you keep your treated area dry from any water or sweat during the healing process to avoid infection or color loss/damage. Try to avoid sweat for at least one week before getting back to your normal work out routine. When showering, avoid direct contact with the water (Okay to apply thick layer of Sherria's Organic and gently wipe off after shower). No sun exposure, swimming, pools, saunas, tanning during the healing process.

Q: Can I wear makeup to my appointment?

A: That is entirely up to you. I will be constantly wiping off pigment so there will be loss in your makeup product(s) after the procedure is complete. You may feel free to bring makeup to do a touch up (around the brows) before I take photos for my portfolio.

Q: How much do you charge if I need a touch up when initial session was done by another artist?

A: This will count as new set of brows and you will be charged full price.

Q: Are there any pre-existing conditions that interfere with consideration for a getting a cosmetic tattoo?

A:
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding (treatment is possible, though anesthetic will not be possible)
• On keloids or if you have tendency to keloid, birthmarks or moles.
• Diabetic.
• Serious diseases such as cancer, epilepsy, autoimmune disorders (doctor's note is required)
• Circulatory disorders (doctor's note is required)
• Any bleeding disorders (doctor's note is required)
• You're taking blood thinning medication
• Currently on Accutane or other strong retinoids (must wait until 6 months after treatment ends)
• If any skin diseases symptoms or irritation appears on the area.
• You've recently had Botox or Disport treatment (must wait 2 months)
• Old PMU
• You have a broken capillary in the eyebrows area
• If you have a sunburn.
• After waxing (must wait 3 days)
• After chemical peels (must wait two weeks)

Q: What should I do before my procedure?

A:

  • It is suggested to grow in as much of your hair as possible prior to your appointment.

  • If there are any stray hairs that fall outside of our final shape, we can remove them.

  • If you plan to go on a vacation, it is recommended to plan your trip a minimum of 14 days after the procedure.

  • It is required to avoid any blood thinning medication for a minimum of 72 hours prior to your appointment. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen.

  • Do not drink any alcohol the night before and day of your appointment and limit the amount of caffeine you consume.

  • If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure.

  • It is highly recommended that you avoid SUN and TANNING BED exposure for at least 14 days before and after your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your deposit. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

Q: What factors will affect my cosmetic tattoo?

A:

  • Sun exposure: The sun will extremely soften the look of your tattoo, so sunblock should be used (once healed) to prolong your Precision Eyebrows treatment.

  • The choice of color: Some colors fade quicker than others, e.g. a blonde color will fade quicker than a dark brown color.

  • Bleeding during the procedure: Any bleeding during the tattooing procedure will reduce the amount of pigment absorption. Alcohol and certain medications act as blood-thinners and should not be taken prior to and following your appointment.

Q:How old do I have to be to get a permanent cosmetic tattoo?

A: You must be 18 years or older to receive a cosmetic tattoo service at 3D Brows & Lashes

Q:Can I get a cosmetic tattoo if I am pregnant or nursing?

A: As a precaution, cosmetic tattooing on pregnant women is prohibited

Q:What happens during my Microblading touch up?
A: The touch up is recommended 4-6 weeks after initial treatment.  During your Microblading touch up, the artist will fill in missing hairs, add or make hairs longer or just achieve a darker color.

Q: What's the Microblading healing process like?

A: Entire healing process will take from 4-6 weeks depending on your body regeneration and age. Your new eyebrows will go through several phases during the healing cycle.

The pigment will appear very natural looking immediately after the procedure. The color of the pigment will appear much darker the next day.

Note that because of natural skin regeneration, after recovery period (peeling), brows might appear lighter than original. This might give you the impression that color is fading too quickly. Often even with proper care, customer develop bald spots or lose original hair stroke which make brows look uneven. It is absolutely normal. That’s is the reason why most customers need a touchup after 6 weeks.

Once the healing of the skin starts taking place, it will look like dandruff flakes or dry skin. However, this is just superficial color and dry skin being naturally removed from your eyebrows.  The final look of your eyebrows will be apparent approximately 30 days after your procedure.

Never rub the treated area as it will disturb the skin from natural healing.

Once completely healed, always apply a layer of sunscreen SPF 30 up to SPF 50 on your eyebrows when exposed to the sun.  Sun exposure might cause the color pigment to fade away more quickly. When using foundation, be aware when applying to avoid your healed eyebrows. If foundation covers healed brows, your eyebrows will appear lighter.

You can now enjoy your beautiful new temporary eyebrows.  You will simply love your new gorgeous fresh look

Q: How Long Does Cosmetic Tattooing Last?

A: Cosmetic tattoo treatments are considered semi-permanent and will not wash off, however, they will fade over time and may need to be refreshed every 1-2 years. Frequency of touch-ups depends on a number of factors including: the pigment color used (lighter colors fade faster) , sun exposure without SPF, excessive exfoliation to the area and if any chemical peels come into contact with treated areas will fade it faster. Please note that final results CAN NOT be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates. You will be re-evaluated on how your skin has received the pigment at your touch-up appointment and any necessary changes will be made. Touch-ups are normal for cosmetic tattoo procedures, with each new procedure requiring at least 2 visits. The initial procedure followed by a touch-up procedure, at least 2 months later. Previously tattooed areas will generally always require additional appointments

Q: What is the difference between cosmetic tattooing and standard body tattooing?

A: Cosmetic tattooing is softer and more subtle – it is done delicately to create a more natural-looking result. Unlike body tattoos, cosmetic tattoos involve natural pigments. These pigments are designed to gently fade over time. Fading is desired as it allows the artist to make changes to color and shape over the years as client’s natural coloration and facial changes occur.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have had previous work done and are interested in a cover-up/re-work, you MUST email us at Info@sherriaglamshop.com with a clear photo, and contact information, PRIOR to booking your appointment. We must discuss your options first. In some cases where the previous work is too dark, dense, discolored, or large, tattoo correction will be highly recommended before we begin the cover-up/re-work. Previously tattooed areas and cover-ups will almost always require additional touch-ups for best results and will be charged accordingly.

Q: How many treatments are needed?

A: For most clients, a minimum of two treatments are usually needed, at least 6-8 weeks apart. Everyone heals differently and at different rates. If you feel your cosmetic tattoo did not heal perfectly the first time, do not worry! The first treatment is just a foundation to build upon. You can go darker, add more density and perfect any areas that may have not retained pigment at your next appointment.

Q: How will my cosmetic tattoo look in the future?

A: During your appointment, we will analyze your skin's undertone to anticipate how pigment colors will fade in the future. We will also mix pigments to ensure color blends well with your existing eyebrow and hair color. The majority of our clients' cosmetic tattoos stay true to color and lighten naturally over time. Many factors affect these changes. At your follow up appointment, we will re-analyze how your skin has responded to the initial treatment. Special alterations to correct the color and to prevent further color change are made at your touch up. Your eyebrow tattoo will eventually appear softer. To keep your hair strokes looking most natural, a touch up appointment is suggested every 1 to 2 years. Results vary with each client.

If you are a frequent smoker, your pigment may fade sooner.

If you are iron deficient or Anemic, your pigment may fade sooner and bleeding/bruising may occur during and after the procedure.
